East Village Coyotes over the Foothills

East Village Coyotes over the Foothills

  • This artwork of a two coyotes jumping above the horizon was created with the feeling of being wild and free out in the foothills

  • The bright colorful flowers and grasses in the foreground are contrasted by a less saturated and foggy background

  • Stamped, signed and dated by the artist on the back

The photos of the landscape in the background were taken just outside of Black Diamond in front of some grasslands. There were barbed wire fence posts dipping under the water, trees and shrubs scattered around the banks of the water with the Rockies in the distance. Something about it was magical to me and my wife nearly jumped out her seat when I abruptly pulled the car over to to and capture the images.

I tried to capture as best I could the diversity of vegetation you’ll find in Alberta. The variety of colors all seem to work well together no matter how they’re placed. These plants actually blended in perfectly with the real life plants placed in front of this mural.

This print comes from one of the nine mural designs I created for the East Village Mural Project in 2016. Each design pays tribute to the animals and natural spaces weaved throughout our city, our proximity to them and how this communion elevates the culture and spirit of our communities.
